Tunday Akintan (born March 7, 1983 in Lagos, is a Nigerian) composer singer, songwriter, musician, and recording artist. He currently lives and works in London, England. He is a pioneer of the Yorubeat music genre.[1]Yorubeat music takes its influence from both African and western drum patterns.[2][3] The influences upon his music were mainly jazz, blues, funk rhythms and Afrobeat. Both James brown and Fela Kuti influenced Yorubeat music.[4]

From an early age he learned to express himself through music and by the age of twelve he finalized he wanted to be a musician. But his father, a Chartered Accountant wanted him to study Accountancy, so that he could one day take over his firm. Akintan fully co-operated with his father and went to England to study accountancy at the Financial Training Company (FTC), part of the Kaplan Financial Ltd, in London. However, after nine months, he left and began studying pop and jazz music at Goldsmiths, University of London to pursue his music career. In 2001, he created his unique sound yorubeat music at Goldsmiths, University of London with regular concerts at the university concert hall.[5][5][6][7] His latest project entitled "The genesis of yorubeat" was produced and recorded in England. His live performances are combined with highly energetic show with songs to sing and dance along.He was discovered by Biyi Adepegba of Joyful Noise ltd in London. His outstanding performance at the Malta Jazz Festival, Valletta, in 2004 where he performed alongside Randy Brecker and Bill Evans (saxophonist) as the Soul bop Band, secured him an African Jazz gig at the Southbank Centre in London
